Since 2014, Iraq has been experiencing one of the most severe humanitarian crises of our time. At the beginning of 2017, Iraq was hosting an estimated 3.1 million internally displaced persons and 239.000 Syrian refugees. These figures have made it difficult to deliver primary public services and have stressed socio-economic conditions of local communities.
COOPI is active in Iraq since June 2017, with activities of supporting refugees and host communities in Qayyarah, south of Mosul. Here we will carry out interventions focused on education in emergency, such as psychological support for children with post conflict trauma and the reconstruction and rehabilitation of primary and secondary schools in war torn areas.  We will also implement WASH activities such as the rehabilitation of distribution and purification systems destroyed under ISIS occupation and the dissemination of sanitation, water and hygiene best practices. Moreover, we will  promote risk reduction campaigns in response to the strong presence of land mines in the area.
