Ever since 1999, COOPI has been managing multi-sectoral interventions in various fields of interest in Malawi.

The agricultural development and the reinforcement of alimentary security are considered as fundamental in order to support an area subject to many kinds of natural disasters, including floods and droughts. Considering that the main source of income in Malawi depends on subsistence agriculture, working in areas such as alimentary security and within the prevention, preparation and reduction of disasters, is fundamental for the support of the country and the communities in which COOPI intervenes.

The main activities implemented in the country include: the distribution of seeds; the rehabilitation and construction of irrigation systems; the training of farmers regarding techniques of cultivation; support to the structures of Civil Protection through formation and training courses directed at enhancing and improving the knowledge and performance of farmers; improvement and institutionalization of agricultural cooperatives; empowerment and advocacy of women.
