Mali is one of the countries worst affected by the food crisis that is sweeping across the Sahel region and this is compounded by the ongoing unrest in the northern area of the country.
COOPI operates in the Ségou and Mopti regions with projects to combat child malnutrition, because these southern regions are some of the closest to those affected by the conflict and because they have a particularly high rate of malnutrition in children under 5 years of age.
Ever since our first intervention in the country, in 2013, we have been providing support to local healthcare centres through training and supervision of medical staff appointed to look after malnourished children;; supply of medicines for healthcare centres and hospitals to guarantee free healthcare as well as of means of transport to allow mothers and children to travel from villages to the district hospital In addition, we train communities in good hygiene practices and prompt identification of malnutrition. Our teams periodically travel from main towns to the remotest outlying villages in order to conduct health check-ups.
