The current food and nutrition crisis in the Sahel region, together with internal conflicts in the Northern parts of the country, have harshly affected Mali’s population.

COOPI has been intervening since 2013 to help reduce child malnutrition in Segou and Mopti, two southern regions most affected by the conflict and with particularly high malnutrition rates in children under the age of five.

Since our first intervention in the country we have been providing support to the local health centres by: training and supervising medical staff in giving appropriate care to children affected by severe malnutrition; transportation for mothers and children from their villages to the district hospital; supply of medicines for health centres and hospitals to guarantee the gratuity of care. Moreover, we raise awareness of good hygiene practices and train communities to identify malnutrition cases. Our teams regularly visit the most isolated and distant villages to monitor activities.
