COOPI managed public health projects in Senegal for many years, since 1993 up until the end of 2002.
Since 2006, we have been providing child sponsorship projects in Dakar and Ziguinchor.
The Dakar project is aimed at ensuring that children with physical or mental disabilities are given access to education. Convinced of the importance of integration between able-bodied and disabled children, we created “integrated classes and ensured teachers received appropriate training in orderto break down the cultural barriers preventing children from achieving their full potential. In addition, we provide children with the medical care they need.
In Ziguinchor, on the other hand, we work to protect the right to education of children from families with socio-economic difficulties. Through child sponsorship projects operating in 2 schools run by local organisations, we are able to provide teacher trainings and pays, manage school canteens and cover other school-related expenses (uniforms, copybooks…). In addition, we provide their mothers with economic and educational support.
