COOPI worked in Senegal in the timespan from 1993 to 2002 on public healthcare-related projects.  Since 2006 it has been carrying out a child sponsorship program in Ziguinchor (http://adottareadistanza.coopi.org/progetti/senegal/, in Italian), focused on granting the right to education for children of families with socio-economic difficulties. Through the sponsorship in two school facilities managed by local organizations, COOPI can grant training and salary for the teachers, lunchroom management and other school costs for children (such as uniforms and schoolbooks). It also provides mothers with economical and educational support.

In the Tambacounda Region COOPI creates opportunities of sustainable employment  for young vulnerable people as an alternative to illegal immigration (besides helping repatriated migrants). Such purpose is achieved through the implementation of breeding farms and areas for horticulture. Training courses are held to teach production techniques, how to operate infrastructure maintenance and also to transmit knowledge of technical assistance and monitoring.

*Data on results achieved by COOPI are up to date with the latest annual report.
