For years now, Uganda has experienced violence perpetrated by the Lord Resistance Army. For this reason, since 2000 COOPI has worked in the country above all in support of women and children, to prevent sexual violence on the one hand, and to combat malnutrition in mothers and children on the other.
Since 2006, we have been managing 4 child sponsorship projects in 2 areas of the country.
In Kampala, we guarantee the right to education tochildren living on the outskirts of a slum, where limited access to water, high rates of unemployment and violence make their living conditions extremely harsh. In the same slum, we provide care for children who have been orphaned or abandoned because of their mental/physical disabilities or because they are HIV positive.
In Nebbi, we offer the most vulnerable children, who are likely to abandon their education because they need to work to earn money for their families, the opportunity to attend school, have access to healthcare and take part in recreational play activities. At the same time, we enable families to take care of their children, by distributing seeds and small farmyard animals.
All these projects are managed in partnership with local organisations.
