Bangui. Distribution of supplies for the opening of the first boutique under the AICS project

The project "Support for the development of the poultry sector in the urban and peri-urban areas of Bangui" financed by the AICS (Agenzia Italiana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo) is about to open a shop specialized in the catering of poultry products in Lakouanga area.

To this purpose, on Friday 28th September, the COOPI project team provided the representatives of the producers benefiting from the project - members of the National Association of Central African Poultry Groups (ANGAC) - with the non-perishable supplies needed for the shop.

With the aim of relaunching the poultry sector in the capital of Central Africa Republic, the project built a specialised poultry shop and restaurant in Lakouanga, at Market level. Right now, the store is ready to open and it is therefore as part of the imminent inauguration that on September 28th, the COOPI team handed over the basic materials for the proper functioning of the boutique to the managers: a freezer, a crockery, dishes, hand-washing devices, a generator, cleaning products, kitchen utensils, tables, chairs and so on.

All costs were supported by the donor AICS, in order to provide a livelihood for producers who will be self-sufficient at the end of the project as part of the objective of reviving the poultry sector in Bangui. This shop will be managed by the ANGAC members, direct beneficiaries of the project and will employ five people. The staff hired received a special training by COOPI on the catering professions (service, cooking, general managing).

The boutique - taking into account the fact that the infrastructure, stocks and capital made available by the project are free of charge, as well as the existence of a guaranteed market - will have to be quickly independent from an economic point of view and thus allow a rapid supply to pay salaries, maintenance costs and the renewal of stocks. In conclusion, the store is essential for the poultry market and to ensure broader development, which will allow producers to increase and stabilize their incomes and create new jobs in the sector once the project is completed.
