Lake Chad. With the European Union, 18 teachers trained in psycho-social support

From 27 to 30 December in Bol, Chad, the staff of COOPI - Cooperazione Internazionale organised a workshop for the school educational staff on the subject of 'Psychosocial support, identification of signs of distress and gender-based violence'. 18 educators from the Lake Province were trained on the topic, and they in turn will train teachers to be able to recognise cases of gender-based violence in schools and identify students in need of psychosocial and psychological support.

According to the Inspector for Literacy and Non-formal Education, Mbodou Boukar:

This training is of crucial importance, because many students who have suffered trauma related to the attacks of the Boko Haram sect need psychosocial support from teachers who are in close contact with them. In this way, a large number of teachers will be able to fully play their role by protecting children effectively.

As of August 2022, COOPI is active in Chad with the project "Inclusive and quality response to the educational needs of the most vulnerable children and youth affected by the Lake Chad crisis", with the support of the European Union (Humanitarian Aid - ECHO), in the Lake Chad province. The project aims to provide inclusive and quality education to children and young people by strengthening educational staff and community structures.

The project focuses on supporting education at all levels. In fact, COOPI's action will be realised through the construction and rehabilitation of infrastructure such as classrooms, latrines and water access points in schools. Literacy courses have also been started, along with the provision of school kits and textbooks.

COOPI has been present in Chad since 1976. These years spent in the country have allowed us to get to know in depth the problems that afflict the country and work on the ground to find the best solutions, supporting the communities.
