What We Do

Food security and sustenance-driven interventions in the Afar Regional State

Natural disasters that struck off Ethiopia during the last four years determined a notable increase in food insecurity, especially in the Afar Region.

Local communities, which are mostly pastoral, lost their livestock and the malnutrition rate rose sharply.

COOPI aims to reduce the risk of acute malnutrition for 30,000 people, reduce morbidity caused by drought and food insecurity and improve food consumption and variety. In order to ensure the achievement of these goals, men and women are equally involved in the decisional process, understanding what their needs are in terms of assistance and protection during the crises. Schools are involved as well to improve children’s nutrition.
